“I want to be an honest man and a good writer.”
—James Baldwin
Johnny Redway’s love for writing began in a fifth grade classroom in El Paso, TX. There, Ms. Pace taught him and his peers the power of storytelling, through the glorious magic of the five-paragraph essay. Since then, with an extended period of fatherhood and work, he dedicated his life to observing, teaching, and writing about life and the human experience on this beautifully vibrant planet. A high school English teacher by trade, Johnny channels his insights into thought-provoking memoirs, novels, short stories, and essays that delve into complex questions of race, politics, culture, society, and what it means to be a human being.
Through his writing and teaching, Johnny inspires young adults to unlock their own creativity and find their unique voices in writing. He is also a co-creator and judge for the Colorado Young Writer’s Contest through CU-Denver’s Denver Writing Project. A graduate of the Mile High MFA at Regis University, Johnny’s work appears in journals such as The Transformative Power of Art Journal and The New Feathers Anthology.
